Here's a more in-depth look at what you'll learn to do at your Advanced level with HABLA, as you take your next steps toward being functionally fluent in Spanish!
Here are some of the things you'll learn to do in Spanish at this level:

FOCUS ON SKILLS
In addition, you will be able to:
SPEAK SPANISH – Hold extended conversations about a variety of topics in Spanish (with a special focus on work situations). Describe past and present actions, habits and customs. Narrate events and sequences of events in the past. Relate past and present moments, actions, and states to each other. Give commands and make polite requests. Relay events as they were told to you. Use colorful language that a native speaker would use to convey your ideas.
UNDERSTAND SPANISH – Grasp information presented in Spanish, such as narratives of other’s past, present, and future events, states, experiences, and situations. Understand at least 60% of authentic Spanish-language conversations, in real life, on the radio, or on television.
READ SPANISH – Have an active understanding of many Spanish verb forms and a rich vocabulary in many different lexical areas, so that you can understand at least 80% of difficult texts (outside of class), and 95% of easier texts (in class).
WRITE SPANISH – Have a command of many regular and irregular Spanish verbs to write about past, present, and future situations. Be able to write a variety of documents in Spanish, such as reports, interviews, essays, and business correspondence.

- Report to others what has been said to you and asked of you
- Add color to speech and connect easily with Spanish-speaking natives through colloquialisms and native expressions
- Discuss sophisticated topics, such as work-related problems, issues and solutions, as well as current events, the arts, personal and professional interests, health, sports, literature and other engaging topics
FOCUS ON LANGUAGE AND GRAMMAR
- A thorough review of all present, past, and future tenses
- Specifically:
- - Present simple and present continuous verb tenses
- Preterite and imperfect verb tenses
- Present perfect and past perfect verb tenses
- Compound and simple future verb structures
- Other structures for talking about plans, intentions, dreams and desires for the future
- Present tense of subjunctive mood - Introduction and review of all tenses of the subjunctive mode
- Introduction and review of imperative mode
- Direct and indirect speech
- Vocabulary useful for work and other situations that may require technical language
- Idioms, expressions, and nuances
- Exposure to authentic materials (books, television, radio and other resources from Spanish-speaking countries)
