Houston Spanish Classes – Goals and Objectives

Intermediate-2:

(HABLA offers Spanish lessons in Houston, as well as other language classes. The Intermediate-2 curriculum for other languages is comparable to this one.)

Welcome to this Spanish class! In this level, you will be expanding on areas of vocabulary and grammar that you have previously worked with, as well as acquiring new grammatical structures and vocabulary. Here is what you can expect to gain specifically, among other things. By the end of this course, you will be able to:

• Talk about present and general habits and states, as well as current actions and projects, in your life and in the lives of others. Work situations will be explored amply.
• Use modal verbs to talk about obligation, permission, possibility – or lack thereof – at work and in other situations.
• Use comparative and superlative structures to discuss work-related topics and other issues.
• Talk about past events, habits, lifestyle, and situations.
• Talk about lifetime experiences, using appropriate verb tenses.
• Narrate events and sequences of events in the past. Relate past and present moments, actions, and states to each other.
• Talk about future plans, intentions, goals, and dreams for work, family, studies, and other things.
• Incorporate and practice vocabulary into useful work-related situations.

Language covered will include:

• General vocabulary
• Clarification of interrogative forms
• Direct and indirect object pronouns
• Modal Verbs
• Comparative and superlative structures
• A complete review of past, present, and future verb tenses. Specifically:

Present simple and present continuous verb tenses
Preterite and imperfect verb tenses
Present perfect and past perfect verb tenses
• Compound and simple future verb structures
• Other structures for talking about plans, intentions, dreams and desires for the future

An introduction and review of the present subjunctive tense

In addition, you should be able to:

SPEAK SPANISH – Hold extended conversations about a variety of topics in Spanish (with a special focus on work situations). Give descriptions of people and places. Describe past and present actions, habits and customs. Narrate events and sequences of events in the past. Relate past and present moments, actions, and states to each other.

UNDERSTAND SPANISH – Grasp information presented in Spanish, such as narratives of other’s past, present, and future events, states, experiences, and situations.

READ SPANISH – Have an active understanding of many Spanish verb forms (present, past, and future) and linking words, and an increasing understanding of vocabulary in many different lexical areas, so that you can understand at least 70% of difficult texts (outside of class), and 90% of easier texts (in class).

WRITE SPANISH – Have a command of many regular and irregular Spanish verbs to write about past, present, and future situations, and a solid vocabulary for writing about yourself, your life, your family, your hobbies, your job, your lifestyle and that of others.

¡BUENA SUERTE!  (GOOD LUCK!)
